Is Pilates As Good As Everyone Says?
There was a recent article in the New York Times titled, "Is Pilates as Good as Everyone Says?”
Short answer - YES!
The article begins by talking about a woman who was injured dancing and told she needed to stop dancing because one wrong move would leave her paralyzed for life. Months of physical therapy made her "safe" to move again, but it was Pilates that rebuilt her strength, mobility and confidence.
I personally know two women - one hit by a car while riding her bike, the other in a terrible car accident - who were both told they would never walk again. Both found Pilates and today they not only walk - they run, they dance, they SUP and snowboard. I am not saying Pilates is magic and defies modern medicine and gravity - but it is transformative for so many people, changing their bodies and minds in ways they didn't see coming.
Pilates was originally named Contrology by its creator Joseph Pilates and was once a practice limited primarily to athletes and dancers. Today we call Contrology, Pilates and it has expanded to be inclusive and available to men and women of all ages and fitness levels.
